Whats New: 07.10.10: Naomi is getting back to her imaginary hippie roots by performing as the singing narrator for The Neo-futurist Film Fest's staged reading of the 1971 classic Billy Jack. The fest boasts "Staged Readings of the Worst Films of the 20th Century!" Click here for details ... the whole fest is great summer fun. July 15: Billy Jack. (1971)
The racism and corruption of Prescott, Arizona, come up against a formidable opponent in the form of Billy Jack, a half-Cherokee Green Beret, Vietnam veteran, and hapkido master. As the self-appointed protector of the counterculture Freedom School, Billy Jack is driven to righteous rage by the oppression of Prescott's privileged class, and proceeds to teach a lesson about tolerance and face-kicking that none of them will soon forget. Directed by Film Fest veteran Bob Stockfish (Equinox, The Ten Commandments) and featuring local musician Naomi Ashley who performs renditions of a few of the film's hippie-skippy musical numbers. 07.06.10: The film Something Better Somewhere Else written and directed by Chicago filmmaker Ron Lazzeretti (who also moonlighted as background vocalist on Naomi's album Another Year Or So) will be showing at the Gene Siskel Film Center in Chicago July 16th through July 27th.
It also happens to star a one Naomi Ashley (she was young, she needed the money) among an amazing Chicago cast. Check out the website for details and to see a trailer of the movie (or check it out right below). 07.06.10: The CD The Postman Delivers Vol. 1: A Chicago Musician Tribute to John Prine is available now on CD Baby and ITunes.
